Five party leaders from the Busoga Sub-region have been placed on administrative leave by the president of the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP), Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, for alleged misconduct and violations of the party constitution.

According to NUP Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya, the party’s deputy secretary for mobilization (eastern region) Mr. Moses Bigirwa, acting head of patriotism and ideology Mr. Andrew Muwanguzi, Coordinator Busoga Sub-region Mr. Lulenzi Bamu, acting coordinator Youth, Busoga Sub-region Mr. Jamal Ayagalaki Mukuve, and the acting district chairperson for Jinja city Mr. Saulo Nsongambi have all been suspended.

“Over the past months, there have been many squabbles, infights and divisions between some of our leaders from Busoga sub-region,” – In a statement released on Thursday afternoon, Mr. Rubongoya stated that the party’s reputation had been severely harmed by the disputes and that the cohesion of its members and supporters was in jeopardy.

He claims that numerous politicians have exacerbated the rift through their media communications. “This goes contrary to the obligation of members and leaders within the party, as stipulated by article 5.3 (b) of our Constitution which requires all members to conduct themselves in a manner that does not bring disrepute to the name of the party. The party has made several attempts to resolve these matters amicably, but to no avail,” Mr Rubongoya added.

He stated that Mr. Kyagulanyi has established a committee to look into the leaders who have been suspended and provide the party with recommendations.

The investigation committee will be presided over by Jolly Mugisha and deputized by Ms. Aisha Kabanda. Moses Kanaabi, William Odinga Balikuddembe, and Fatuma Kassim are additional committee members.

“The committee will accord them the right to be heard, but also engage with the People of Busoga sub-region on this and other related matters,” Ms Rubungoya added.
