Two policemen have been arrested in connection with bodaboda killings. The two policemen were identified as Yassin Lusiba, a Special Police Constable and Ahmed Sserwadda, a Police Constable, all attached to Katwe Police Station.

They were arrested together with Peter Kibirige, an ex-convict, Wasswa Muleefu (former crime preventer), Sulaiman Kamya (police informer) and a motorcycle mechanic in Katwe. The others are Richard Adriko, a resident of Najjanankumbi, Moses Jjumba, and Moses Wakko aka Joze, a resident on Nansana in Wakiso district.

They were arrested by the Internal Security Organisation (ISO) operatives from Katwe, Ndeeba, and Nansana. This brings the number of suspected bodaboda killers to eight, including Mugisha, who was arrested by the Police in Ndeeba on Tuesday.

Recently, the two men brutally murdered a bodaboda cyclist who delivered them to Kakeeka in Rubaga division, Kampala. The deceased was later identified as Derrick Mulindwa and the two suspected killers as John Bosco Mugisha aka Mukiga and Young Mulo (not a musician). After his arrest on Monday, Mugisha told security that his accomplice was Young Mulo and that he had been lynched. But it was later established that Mugisha also called himself Young Mulo.

ISO boss Col Frank Bagyenda Kaka said they had been tracking the racket for some time. ISO said Muleefu and Kamya were allegedly working with the two policemen (Lusiba and Serwadda) to secure bond for the suspects.

“We realised these people were hardly prosecuted because they were being aided by some of our colleagues in security. We always wondered why the killings of bodaboda operators persisted,” he said.

“But we have achieved what we wanted by identifying and arresting those behind it. We are still hunting for more to face the law and we have the lists.” Bagyenda said Adriko, a businessman based at Arua Park in Kampala, is accused of buying the stolen motorcycles. “He even confessed to having bought Mulindwa’s motorcycle,” Bagyenda said.

During interrogation, Adriko is said to have confessed buying over 37 stolen motorcycles from the suspects. He said he had agents in Arua and in DR Congo. After stealing motorcycles, he would allegedly load them onto a truck and conceal them with food items such as matooke or sacks of maize, and transport them to Arua and eventually DR Congo.
