Army claims NUP’s Mwesiga was not tortured

Brig Gen Felix Kulayigye, the spokesperson for the Uganda People’s Defence Force, has recommended Eric Mwesigwa of the opposition National Unity Platform to contact the police and the Uganda Human Rights Commission for assistance.

Recently, Mwesigwa’s body was shown in extremely gory photographs by NUP president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu dubbed Bobi Wine.

Mwesigwa said that he was repeatedly kicked in the chest and stomach as well as burned with hot metals and had his flesh pulled.

Bobi Wine called the actions “despicable” and charged that the government had “abducted and tortured” Mwesigwa.

“They abducted him and tortured him asking what Bobi Wine and NUP are planning to do to “overthrow the government. What a group of cold-hearted criminals!” he said.

Brig Gen Kulayigye, however, continues to insist that Mwesigwa has not been detained by a security organization.

“Having done a thorough check on all security agencies, it has been established that one Mwesigwa Eric was not in the hands of any security agency. We advise him to go to the UHRC and report or the police so that we can commence an intensive investigation.”
