60 NUP activists defect and rejoin NRM in Mbarara

On a recent Thursday, Defense Minister Vincent Sempijja had two significant missions in Mbarara. The first was to preside over the 10th anniversary celebrations of the Investors Sacco, a program funded and supported by the ONC Museveni office based in Kyambogo.

The second reason for his visit was to welcome over 60 political activists who had previously joined Bobi Wine’s NUP (National Unity Platform) out of frustration and excitement.

After some reflection on their choices and political calculations, these former NUP members decided to return to the NRM (National Resistance Movement), and Minister Sempijja was dispatched to receive them back into the fold.

Although ONC Head Hadijjah Namyalo Uzeiye couldn’t be present due to her busy schedule, a group of ONC coordinators representing her attended the event in Mbarara.

The ONC Coordinators for Greater Mbarara, led by Muhangi Zephline, took on this role.

Minister Sempijja was accompanied by prominent NRM mobilizers from Mbarara City to welcome the defectors and participate in the Investors Sacco’s 10th-anniversary celebration.

Mbarara City RCC Lt. Col. Mwesigye and NRM Chairperson Hon. Wilson Tumwine were also present.

The group of more than 60 former NUP members expressed their gratitude to ONC Manager SPA Namyalo Uzeiye for her inclusive and open-door approach.

They requested an audience with her to discuss strategies for further dismantling the remaining structures of Bobi Wine’s NUP in Mbarara City.

They also sought her support in amplifying the President’s message on job creation and wealth generation as they work towards securing his political influence.
