22 Ministers & 30 MPs implicated in Iron sheet Scandal

22 ministers, 31 members of parliament, and 13 chief administrative officers reportedly have made statements defending themselves in relation to the iron sheets

At least 22 members of President Museveni’s Cabinet, including the vice president, Ms. Jessica Alupo, have provided the Inspectorate of Government (IG) with statements outlining how they obtained some of the iron sheets that were intended for distribution to at-risk communities in the Karamoja Sub-region.

The Speaker of Parliament, Ms. Anita Among, the Prime Minister, Robinah Nabbanja, Rebecca Kadaga, the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Affairs, Rukia Isanga Nakadama, and Finance Minister Matia Kasaija are also on the list of those who have submitted their explanations.

The IGG spokesperson, Ms. Ali Munira, told this website that 31 MPs, 13 CAOs, and 22 ministers had all given their explanations for the iron sheets.

“They did not come to the inspectorate. They were not summoned, but they were asked to offer written explanations, which they submitted in February,” Ms Munira said.

Bunyoro Region gets the lion’s share

Investigations into the situation are underway, but a deeper check at the list of beneficiaries of the contentious iron sheets reveals that the Bunyoro Sub-region has the highest proportion of recipients.

There are at least 27 more politicians from the area who received the iron sheets in addition to Ms. Nabbanja and Mr. Kasaija. One of them is Ms. Mary Mugasa, a native of Hoima and the state minister for public service.

MPs from the Kagadi District’s seats are among the others. The list includes Buyaga East Eric Musana, Buyaga West Barnabas Tinkasimire, and District Woman MP Jennifer Mbabazi.
