In a significant operation, police in Nakaseke District apprehended a 17-year-old vendor from Mukwano Arcade, Kampala, who was found in unlawful possession of a firearm. The arrest occurred at Mabanga village, Kyanuna parish, Namayumba Sub County, at the Wakiso and Nakaseke District border.

The vendor, now held at Nakaseke Central Police Station, is set to be transferred to Kampala Metropolitan North for a thorough investigation. The investigation aims to uncover how the teenager acquired the firearm and the circumstances surrounding its possession.

Details of the Arrest:

The incident unfolded after a vigilant resident from Seggalye village, Semuto Sub County, Nakaseke District, reported a suspicious individual with a gun to the Semuto Police Station. Acting swiftly, detectives arrived at the scene around 11:30 am on Friday, apprehending the young suspect who was armed with a gun and three rounds of ammunition.

Suspect’s Background:

The 17-year-old, identified as a resident of Rubaga Division in Kampala, was found with a firearm registered as PSO 4000390-11007. Initial investigations revealed that he had received the gun on June 25, 2024, from a colleague also working at Mukono Arcade, Kampala. The motive behind this transfer remains unknown and forms a critical part of the ongoing probe.

Community Involvement:

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sam Twiineamazima, the Savanna Regional Police Spokesperson, highlighted the crucial role of community vigilance in this arrest. “This arrest was possible due to the prompt and responsible actions of the concerned citizen. We commend her bravery and urge others to follow suit,” ASP Twiineamazima remarked.

Public Safety Emphasis:

The police continue to emphasize the importance of public vigilance in maintaining safety and order. Citizens are encouraged to report any suspicious activities promptly, reinforcing the collective effort to ensure community security.
